Since its founding in 1974, the Department of Physics at UAM Iztapalapa has become a national point of reference in teaching and research. It brings together an academic core of more than 50 research professors, most of them holding a doctoral degree and members of Mexico’s National System of Researchers.

With a multidisciplinary approach, we combine basic and applied research, from the fundamental questions of physics to their applications in materials, complex systems and quantum technologies. This work is organized into eight areas: mechanics, statistical mechanics, theoretical physics, physics of liquids, physics of complex systems, gravitation and cosmology, optical phenomena and transport in matter, and polymers, in collaboration with leading national and international institutions.

Through our two undergraduate programs and our graduate programs, we train professionals and researchers able to meet today’s scientific and technological challenges, guided by the principle of academic excellence.
