Profile
Who we are looking for
A bachelor’s degree and a PhD in physics or a related discipline, with at least one year of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in one of the areas of this search. We expect scientific independence, high-quality research, supervision or co-supervision of undergraduate and graduate student projects, active participation in outreach, and the ability to teach courses (UEA) across the Department’s programs. Proficiency in Spanish and English is required; teaching experience is desirable. Successful candidates may later apply to the University’s open competitions for permanent positions.
Areas and profiles
Mechanics
Solid grounding in classical mechanics is required, together with original research and publications on item (a), the core focus of the position.
(a) Classical mechanics and dynamical systems: Newtonian, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics; nonlinear systems and chaos.
Experience in (b) or (c) is desirable — frontier topics listed by way of example and not limitation:
(b) Analytical, computational and data-driven methods in dynamical systems: numerical simulation; time-series analysis and equation discovery from data; machine learning and physics-informed neural networks (PINNs); thermodynamics of dynamical systems; fractals.
(c) Interdisciplinary physics and frontier topics: modelling of physical systems in biology, biophysics, rigid-body dynamics, optimization and control, topological properties and mesoscopic systems; links with engineering, industry and frontier technological problems.
Polymers
Extensive research experience in one of the following:
(a) synthesis and/or formulation, and advanced characterization of novel polymeric and composite materials — soft matter, meso- and microporous materials — for next-generation rechargeable batteries, selective membranes and other high-impact applications.
(b) materials for medical physics: tissue-engineering scaffolds, controlled-release vectors and material–biological tissue interfaces.
(c) materials for water treatment and quality, including ion-exchange resins and the removal of heavy metals and other contaminants.
(d) machine-learning and automation tools to accelerate the discovery, design, synthesis, characterization and/or development of new polymeric materials.
Requirements
Required documents
- Up-to-date CV, without photograph or contact information, with a full publication list including complete citations (all authors and the DOI of each publication when available), highlighting first-author and corresponding-author papers; teaching experience; outreach activities; and projects led as PI or technical co-PI.
- A summary of your three most relevant works (3 pages max).
- At least two recommendation letters, sent directly by the recommenders to fisica_plazas@grupos.xanum.uam.mx.
- Research project proposal (3 pages max).
- Teaching statement (3 pages max): which courses (UEA) you can teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, and at least one evidence-based teaching practice you have implemented or propose.
- FI-DIPPPA-20 declaration form stating that you have not been the subject of complaints of gender-based violence or other serious human rights violations, completed and signed.
The Secretary General of the University is Dr. Esthela Irene Sotelo Núñez. - ORCID and, optionally, a link to an online profile (Scopus, Google Scholar or similar). Register at orcid.org/register if needed.
- Declaration of academic ties: PhD and postdoctoral advisors, and co-authorships with UAM-Iztapalapa personnel over the past five years.
Instructions
PDF files only, named [lastnames]_[document].pdf (CV, trabajos, investigacion, docencia, FI-DIPPPA-20). No contact information or photographs. Documents must cite their sources and, where applicable, declare the use of artificial intelligence: tool, scope and purpose.
